  • Judge turns down Bout appeal

Viktor Bout lost another round in his attempt to overturn his conviction of conspiracy charges, but the judge in his case said she would consider his complaints of harsh treatment in a federal detention center. The New York federal judge who presided over his New York trial last November rejected Bout’s latest appeals _ which included claims that the U.S. had no jurisdiction to prosecute him. Bout had been scheduled for sentencing during this appearance, but U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin postponed that until March 12. Bout faces 25 years to life for his four conspiracy convictions related to  a 2008 federal sting that led to his arrest in Thailand.
